Large Fluffy Teddy Bear

I cannot believe I forgot to post this! It’s been sitting in my drafts folder since early this summer (smh). I wanted to make a big fluffy bear for my youngest little man before we went on our vacation early this summer and I just adore how it turned out!

I have really fallen in love with this yarn, especially when I’m making a stuffed animal. It works up quickly, hides mistakes, and the finished product doesn’t look your typical crocheted stuffed animal – I just like the difference! Shall we get started?!

Supplies:

L/8.00mm hook

2 balls Lion Brand Homespun Thick & Quick

Stitch markers

Scissors

Tapestry needle

5mm hook

Black yarn for eyes and nose

Head:

1. ch 3, sl st to form a ring.

2. ch 1, 6 sc in ring = 6 (place stitch marker)

3. 2 sc in each around = 12

4. [2sc, sc] around = 18

5. sc around = 18

6. [2sc, sc in next 2] around = 24

7-8. sc around

9. [2sc, sc in next 2] = 36

10-11. sc around

12. [2sc, sc in next 3] 6 times, sc next 12 = 42

13-14. sc around

15. [sc next 5, dec] = 36

16. [sc next 4, dec] = 30

17. [sc next 3, dec] = 24

18. [sc next 2, dec] = 18

*Begin stuffing head, remove stitch marker, be careful not to over stuff – you want a soft fluffy head.*

19. [sc, dec] around = 12

20. dec around = 6

*Leave a long tail and fasten off. Weave tail in and out through stitches along the top and pull shut, stitch across to secure.*

Body:

1. ch 3, sl st to form ring. Ch 1 & 6 sc in ring.

2. 2sc around = 12 (place stitch marker)

3. [2sc, sc] around = 18

4. [2sc, sc next 2] = 24

5. [2sc, sc next 3] = 30

6. [2sc, sc next 4] = 36

7. [2sc, sc next 5] = 42

8-12. sc around

13. [sc next 5, dec] = 36

14-20. sc around

21. [sc next 4, dec] = 30

22. sc around

23. [sc next 3, dec] = 24

24. [sc next 2, dec] = 18

*Stuff, remove stitch marker, attach head.*

Legs (make 2):

1. ch 10, sc in 2nd from hook and in next 7 across, 3 sc in last, sc across opposite side, 2sc in last = 22

2. 2sc in first, sc next 7, 2sc next 3, sc next 7, 2sc next 2 = 28

3-6. sc around

7. sc next 7, dec 4 times, sc next 7 = 18

8. s next 3, dec 4 times, sc next 5 = 12 (stuff foot)

9-20. sc around (stuff as you go)

21. dec around = 6

*Leave a long tail, weave in and out across top stitches, pull shut, attach to body.*

Arms (make 2):

1. ch 3, sl st to form ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring.

2. 2 sc around = 12

3. sc around

4. [2sc, sc] = 18

5-14. sc around

15. [sc, dec] = 12

16. dec around = 6

*Leave a long tail, weave in and out across top stitches, pull to close, attach to body.*

Ears (make 2):

1. ch 3, sl st to form ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring.

2. 2sc around = 12

3. sc around

4. [2sc, sc] = 18

5. sc around

6. sc next 7, dec 2 times, sl st in next, fasten off and sew shut, attach to head.

Eyes (make 2):

Using your 5mm hook and black yarn chain 3, sl st to form a ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring, sl st around, fasten off and sew.

Use same black yarn to embroider nose and mouth.
